Herman Upmann was a German banker whose love for Habanos led him to settle in Havana in 1844, founding a bank and a Habanos factory. Over time, the bank closed, but its brand of cigars persists today as an example of the finest medium-flavored Habanos. H. Upmann's blend, of mild to medium strength, is obtained from leaves sourced from Vuelta Abajo .
The gold medals that adorn the H. Upmann box were obtained at no less than eleven international fairs throughout the 19th century, in recognition of the brand's unparalleled quality and aroma.
